To answer some of the questions you might have about counselling, psychotherapy and my work, I put together this FAQ section.

If you have any further questions, you can always get in touch with me here.

+ What kind of therapy do you offer?

I offer Person-Centred psychotherapy.

Person-centred therapy, also known as person-centred or client-centred counselling, is a humanistic approach that deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves, rather than how a counsellor can interpret their unconscious thoughts or ideas.

Created in the 1950s by psychologist Carl Rogers, the person-centred approach ultimately sees human beings as having an innate tendency to develop towards their full potential. However, this ability can become blocked or distorted by certain life experiences, particularly those the experiences which affect our sense of value.

The therapist in this approach works to understand an individual’s experience from their perspective. The therapist positively values the client as a person in all aspects of their humanity, while aiming to be open and genuine. This is vital in helping the client feel accepted, and better able to understand their own feelings. The approach can help the client to reconnect with their inner values and sense of self-worth, thus enabling them to find their own way to move forward and progress.

+ Where do you hold your sessions?

In Esher, Weybridge and Guildford in Surrey. I can also provide sessions in central London upon request.

+ How long will I need therapy for?

After discussing your goals for therapy we will agree on an initial number of sessions which you feel comfortable with. We will review our work together on a regular basis.

+ What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are essentially interchangeable terms and broadly have the same meaning. Usually a psychotherapist has a postgraduate qualification.

+ Do you offer free consultations or trial sessions?

I offer a free twenty minute phone consultation with no obligation to commit to therapy.

+ How long does it usually take to feel an improvement?

Each of us is unique and everyone’s reasons for embarking on therapy are different. Some people notice a shift in how they are feeling after only a few sessions, others take longer. There is no prescribed timeline.

+ How long is a session?

Sessions are 50 minutes long.

+ How much does a session cost?

Sessions are priced within a range of £70 - £100 depending on whether you see me in Surrey or London and on your personal circumstances/medical insurance etc.

+ Do you have a cancellation policy?

If you agree to commit to attend therapy, we will agree an initial set number of sessions. If you cannot attend an individual session I ask for a minimum of 48 hours notice to avoid being charged. You can cancel your therapy at any time. I ask that we discuss this as part of our work together so that we can agree an appropriate ending in which you feel supported.
